LIVE AT THE OLD POINT (Mule Train) Bonerama is one off the wall band indeed. Made up of five (count 'em, five) trombone players, a killer drummer, great guitar player and talented Sousaphone (Tuba) player, they are in the process of taking New Orleans by a storm, not to mention garnering rave reviews from other places distant to their present home-base. This seemingly strange juxtaposition of band members still somehow work well together and their musical relationship, though kind of quirky, still manages to rise above. Mark Mullins plays trombone in Harry Connick Jr.'s orchestra and also fronts another great unique New Orleans rock band "Mule Bone". Craig Klein, another member of Connick's band orchestrated Bonerama with Mullins. Klein is also a founding member of The New Orleans Nightcrawlers and The Storyville Stompers, two more great brass oriented bands. Drummer Russell Batiste is also outstanding. He just plays the hell out of the skins adding a thunderous back beat that just won't quit. This live album recorded at the Old Point Bar, which is located just across the river from The French Quarter really demonstrates what an ingenious and captivating band Bonerama really is. If you like Louisiana style Jazz with a Rock 'n Roll attitude check these guys out. This is a great combination of Rock, Street Music, Modern Jazz and Classical Music that just melds together and give's the listener an invigorating experience. Several well thought-out originals stand shoulder to shoulder with such killer cover-song work-outs as Led Zeppelin's "Moby Dick", and a killer 12 and a half minute interpretation of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein".
